Breaking News: Adobe Photoshop Touch coming soon

Adobe are currently holding their MAX event in LA, and have just announced Adobe Photoshop Touch.

Demonstrated by Chase Jarvis using a Blackberry Playbook, Photoshop Touch looked pretty impressive, and at the end of the demo, Chase asked Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch, if the app would be available for iOS, and the answer was a promising resounding YES.

Whilst there was no news on a release date or pricing for the iOS version, as soon as there is, you will read it here.

Want to see Adobe Photoshop Touch in action? then check out this video by Adobe's Russel Brown (please be aware, this is demo'd on a Blackberry Playbook)

Max file size of 1600x1600 is hardly something to get too excited about. Features wise, it looks like a welcome addition, though.

I'm blown away by limited resolution and the fact Adobe would release this app on failed hardware and failing OS first. Is anybody thinking at Adobe?

Hmmm with the opening statement ending with... "to share on Facebook" that says it right there... LOW RESOLUTION! Sounds like a Free - $0.99 app.

The "refine edge" & "warp photo & warp text" is the best features in this demo!

Yawn. Why such Lo-res and really, using a stylus during the presentation? Nerd alert! Don't get me wrong, I have and use a stylus...but really, during a presentation of a TOUCH application, fail. Btw, I noticed they used a Blackberry Playbook and only agreed that they will be releasing PST for iOS. Again, really? As much as I like the size and feel of the Playbook, I've yet to put it through it's paces as every store I've been in that had one on display wouldn't work or let me access it because it was password protected. Really, so how am I supposed to try it and buy it if it's password protected or not connected to wifi or not plugged in?!! It's no wonder they are losing their customer base.

I am here at MAX and it was not a resounding YES. It was a meek yes at best. I am sure it will eventually make it to iOS. I just finished playing with the app and it rocks! All other photo editing apps better find something else to develope because their days are numbered.

I can tell you the stylus is a piece of hardware. It has buttons on it to control the digital ink and more. Want to erase? Just flip it over just like a pencil. It was pretty cool and illustrators will love it.

There is another keynote Tuesday morning more focused on Developers. Looking forward to another excellent keynote presentation.

Hmmm. I reviewed the Adobe SDK apps for MyMac.com and all three, Color Lava, Adobe Nav, and Eazel, were ill-conceived at best (as well as pricey for three lame apps)and seemed more in the line of beta apps than finished products. I think Adobe has been really dragging their heels in app development for iOS and mobile devices. It was intriguing that the SDK apps had remote access to PS but since the apps themselves were off the mark, it's disappointing that Adobe hasn't developed a powerhouse of an app with remote access to PS and or AI. If they think they are going to woo photographers with a questionable low-res app, then they just are simply out of the loop. There are so many great photo-editing apps available that it seems like a big yawn for Adobe to launch a serious editing app now. They are going to have to bring something really new to the table to compete with Snapseed and Filterstorm Pro.

While the presenter kept saying "Wow," "Great," "Fantastic...." I am sitting calm in front of my computer and really not impressed. Can't they have somebody to present this app? His hand was shaking when he was using the stylus.... You probably can tell his tone sounded embarrassed when he mentioned 1600px....

@Ed

Thanks for the update on the stylus. That might explain it's use in the video. The Lo-res sounds odd to me though. I'm sure it's fine for Facebook however it seems pretty silly that any photo editing app not save in the highest resolution possible...am I wrong?

There's more info on TiPB:

This and 5 other apps will be available in early 2012 for US$9.99 each.

Now if PIXELMATOR made an IOS app, THAT would be cool! PS is bloatware at best and a toy at worst (Elements)...

The Blackberry is probably the ideal device on which to roll this out. All Adobe needs now is a catchy marketing slogan like "Amateur hour is over", and they'll have copied the whole RIM, if you will, playbook.

Mr Tmney is right on with his comment about "Share on Facebook!" A real selling point for professionals, right there.

Like RIM, Adobe has sat on the sidelines while the iOS phenomenon exploded beyond all expectation. Now they seemed poised to enter the fray with a product that bears a famous name but seems inexplicably hobbled by design compromises. A Blackberry with no email? Photoshop without full res? Who is the customer for this?

Just to clarify (and I'm surprised no one has pointed this out, yet)... it is NOT a playbook they are demoing on, but an Android Honeycomb tablet.
