Camera Plus Pro updated and now with LIVE Photo and Video Filters

*** TO CELEBRATING THE RELEASE OF VERSION 4.0, CAMERA PLUS PRO IS ON SALE UNTILL THE 6TH OCTOBER ***

Camera Plus Pro, a sometimes overlooked all-in-one camera replacement app for the iPhone has just been updated to version 4.0, bringing with it many unique features never seen in an all-in-one camera replacement app.

From the developers, Global Delight Technologies: "Camera Plus Pro v4.0 is the next level of iPhoneography. With this upgrade we have pushed the boundaries possible on an iPhone and have brought to you many unique features never seen before on the App Store.

For the first time ever, Camera Plus Pro v4.0 brings you full screen live photo filters and live video filters that you can preview and apply before you capture. This comes with a simplified new interface, easy manage and share options with incredible speed to enhance your iPhoneography experience."

So what's new version 4.0?

  • 18 LIVE Photo and 9 LIVE Video Filters
  • Preview how the next live filter would look like on your photos and videos in Full Screen, with a gentle 2-finger swipe on the screen.
  • New slider that lets you vary the intensity of the filter applied to your photos.
  • Sleeker UI, 30X faster
  • The video recording has been re-written from the scratch so that you can now record amazing videos with live filters of 640x480 dimension in any orientation.
  • New video zoom slider, you can get that extra smooth zoom that you always wanted in your videos. And, the videos are being recorded at 17 fps on your iPhone 4 and iPod touch with camera, while 16 fps on your iPhone 3GS.
  • The existing photo and video filters have been tweaked further and you are going to simply love how they now look like on your photos and videos.
  • New single login page for supported social networks

Camera Plus Pro 4.0 is an interesting alternative to Camera+ and Pro Camera (that many will consider to be the top 2 all-in-one camera replacement apps), however the only problem I have, is the predefined filter effects found in the photo editor module offer nothing new compared to the competition, and the live filters, which I think are a great addition only save at 2048x1529 pixels.

Once again, I find myself asking why filtered photos are only saved at 3MP resolution when the iPhone 4 has a 5MP camera. So many camera and photo editing apps do not save at full resolution; there must be a technical reason for it that I'm not aware of. If anyone knows, please enlighten me!

Apart from that, I quite like CPP. It includes a video mode which is convenient.

Looks like a cool app. It's nice to see more and more apps using live viewfinders for effect previews.

@Espekayen
Yes, it's a technical issue.
You usually need quite a bit of memory to process large image sizes. Many algorithms also tend to require multiple copies of the original image to work. Thats why it's not usually possible to process a full 5MP photo at once without crashing the phone. Usually can be solved by processing the image in smaller sections and stitching them back into one large image.
However this leads to some issues if your algorithms require information from neightbouring pixels (for example blurring operation). Pixels on the egde of your section image don't have access to all its neightbours so you'd end up with nasty outlines in the final image. Of course there are ways to get around all these but it's a rather complicated task to get them all together compared to just rendering at lower resolution.

Another reason for smaller rendering sizes is that the iPhone GPU only supports up to 2048*2048 texture/image sizes. Thats probably why many apps have 2048*16xx max resolutions.

I think this kind of app is really over saturated, CPP seems not much different than other app....

@Teemu

Thanks for that. So basically there is a way around it, but developers choose to take the easy route by simply saving at a lower resolution. Seems lazy. FX Photo Studio, to name just one app, manages to save at full resolution so I don't see why other developers find it so difficult.

Plastic Bullet Camera on the iPhone 4 & iPad 2 can support up to 30 MP ;-)

Anyway, please note that CPP res limit seems to concern live effects--which is pretty memory hungry.

You're gonna need A5 (or higher) to process live filters at full res.

I bought this app by accident when I got my iPhone, thinking I was getting Camera+. I gave it a second look after this update and would have been willing to rotate it in among my other camera replacement apps, except the crop feature has no aspect ratios, just freeform. That's such a WTF...

Hi all,

Camera Plus Pro v4.0 has undergone a transformation by adding Live Filters to your Photos. Since in v4.0, the photos are captured instantly with background saving, it will make the app slow if we allow to capture Live Filters at high resolution.
So for instant capture of photos, photos with live filters are saved at 2048x1529 while those without filters are saved at full resolution of 2592x1936. However, you can capture photos without live filters and later add photo filters keeping the image at full resolution.

Thanks all for the feedback. You can also send in your feedback to support@globaldelight.com
