No more Spam

Due to a major spamming problem here on the iPhoneography blog, I've had to enable "comment approval". Whilst this will slow down the interaction between readers, myself and other commenters, it will get rid of the crap, so don't let this stop you from leaving comments on any post, as I will approve them as quickly as possible, but please remember I do have to sleep sometimes :)

Wife: Have you got anything without spam?
Waitress: Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it.
Wife: I don't want ANY spam!
Man: Why can't she have egg bacon spam and sausage?
Wife: THAT'S got spam in it!
Man: Hasn't got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it?
Vikings: Spam spam spam spam... (Crescendo through next few lines...)
Wife: Could you do the egg bacon spam and sausage without the spam then?
Waitress: Urgghh!
Wife: What do you mean 'Urgghh'? I don't like spam!

Captcha + Approval? Every time? Whoa!

I will look at removing, but this stops the auto spam bots, but doesn't stop the wasters that keep manually spamming this blog. Whilst having both in place is a pain, it seems to be a necessary evil :(

It's a shame you have to do that, but needs must! There are too many idiots around, spamming their crap on sites like this so something definitely needs to be done.

Thanks for your hard work. I love this site, and I hate spammers.

What a pain for you, but it's much appreciated.

What are you calling spam or "wasters"? I hope it isn't when users call out bad apps or disagree with a review.

This is very good thing because now a days spammer are everywhere and I also do this thing on my blog. Great idea!

@Skip, as you will discover over time, I never delete any comments from readers*, even if they don't agree with my reviews, as I encourage open debates. The reason for this extra layer of comment management, is to stop the links to dodgy shoe, handbag and watch websites. This morning I woke at 06:30 and by 07:00 the blog had been hit with over 25 spam posts, and the only way I could stop the ass***e from doing it, was to implement this comment management. The offender soon gave up and went elsewhere.

* I have a confession to make. I just deleted your last comment in error, sorry about this, I will try not to do that again.

@Glyn... no worries. And I know exactly what you're talking about. I'm not a violent person by nature, but I'd be ashamed to admit what I wish could happen to unsolicited spammers. I just cleared 30 off my own blog today. Seems like as soon as I delete them and report them as spam, they hit me even harder.

I completely understand the move and thanks for the work you do on this blog.

It's common among big part of web-sites. Spammers are everywhere, and new technologies are capable to defeat them. Premoderation is not a big problem for usual users, but are a big trouble for spam bots!

Honeypot field? Doesn't penalize your legit commenters and works wonderfully in most cases.

Manual approval is a terrible solution.

"We also need to work"?? Is he taking the p***? He sounds like a complete idiot. Get a proper job!
November 18, 2011 | Unregistered Commenterespekayen
Hahahaha! really funny! "We also need to work". I think whatever you have don is really good for your site and as a lesson fro the spammers.
