"LiveAction" Camera Grip and Remote, from Belkin

Belkin has just joined the iPhoneography accessory market with 2 products.

First is the "LiveAction Camera Grip", which has a fast-fire shutter button with a contoured, soft-touch, which is designed to make your iPhone or iPod Touch more like a digital camera.

The "LiveAction Camera Grip" also has an integrated tripod mount that allows you to attach your device to any standard tripod for more stabilised control, as well as separate buttons for photo and video, which let you easily switch from taking stills to recording live action. To use, simply attach it to your device’s charge connector and snap away.

To complement the "LiveAction Camera Grip", Belkin have also released a FREE camera app called "LiveAction" [App Store Link]. With the Belkin LiveAction app, you can instantly record and share all of your media. Capture high-quality snapshots and home movies, then send to your social network.

LiveAction can be used on its own as your iPhone’s primary camera app, or with the LiveAction Camera Grip or LiveAction Camera Remote, and offers the following features:

  • Separate on-screen photo and video buttons
  • Easy sharing via email and Facebook
  • Intuitive interface
  • Seamless transition between photo and video modes

Secondly there's the "LiveAction Camera Remote", which allows you to activate your iPhone or iPod Touch camera shutter from up to 30 feet away. This wireless two button remote lets you instantly switch between photo and video functions without ever touching your device. The "LiveAction Camera Remote" also has a detachable camera stand that can be used to prop up your device and then slide it back onto the remote when finished with.

Both devices are currently available from Belkin's USA online store and are priced at $49.99 USD each.

The camera grip looks interesting. But I fear the app is too limiting. How could we get other apps (e.g. 6x6 and Filmic Pro) to integrate with the device?

According to the press release (http://www.belkin.com/pressRoom/releases/uploads/LiveAction_110911.html), each accessory "requires the use of the LiveAction App", which will rather limit their utility in many eyes...

Belkin marketers shouldn't suggest hand models take pictures of their palms.
