Press Release: Percolator 2.0, the Retro, coffee-inspired photo app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch is now available

BROOKLYN, NY, DECEMBER 13, 2011 -- App developer Tinrocket, LLC, today announced the release of Percolator 2.0 on the iTunes App Store.

Percolator 2.0 is a substantial upgrade to the popular circle-based mosaic photo app and expands the possibilities for “percolation” in many exciting directions. Now a Universal app for iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch, Percolator 2.0 sports finer control, new effects, and shorter percolation time for better images, faster.

Percolator’s elegant, retro-inspired user interface has been given extra attention, showing several innovations & refinements:

New Grind, Brew, and Serve controls are cleverly hidden away until they’re needed, keeping the unique dial-based user interface as streamlined as possible on both iPhone and iPad screens. These new dials give the user extra control over detail, transparency, color and texture. New filters and effects, like Treble, Superstar, and SteepiaTM,  and textures ranging from Paper Cup to Clouds, extend the creative possibilities.

Watching your photos brew just got more animated with new visual effects that reveal the percolated image--as circles bubble and boil up, they transform into the final image with a flourish.

Percolator 2.0 now features in-app sharing through Twitter, Facebook, and email. Each image created by Percolator contains a metadata string with a human-readable description of the recipe. This string is honored by iPhoto and Flickr, so users can remember and share the settings of their favorite percolations.

Oh wow. I don't know how it is on an iPhone yet, but this update is ridiculously good on an iPad. Prepare yourself for one heck of a timesuck. It's just too much fun to mess with! Huge congrats to the developer.

This app has been a standout for me for a long time, and all of the additions to 2.0 are welcome. BUT, Tinrocket really dropped the ball in one critial area: exporting. Huge disappointment.

Percolated photos are saved back to your camera roll at less than full resolution…on my iPhone 4, original 5mp images are reduced to 3.1 mp. This is a shame, and frankly inexcusable, and they need to be called on it.

The only explanation I can think of is that they are under the impression that all anyone will do with their Percolator creations is share them on the web - which is a terrible assumption. This app is capable of such interesting and lovely output - creations that you literally cannot achieve with any other app - that anyone who doesn't see it's potential for large prints, cards, and wall art is shortsighted.

I've mentioned before that what this app needs, now more than ever, is a high-res output option such as PDF, like SketchMe uses, to allow the images to be easily scaled and printed at any size. Right now, there's not much you can do print-wise with a 3.1 mp file, other than small prints or cards.

The new image controls and creative options in 2.0 are well thought out and implemented, as expected. But without the ability to export high resolution - at the very least at original image size - is a real disappointment for me. I must be the only one, because I haven't seen any other reviews or reviewers calling out this shortcoming. So, Tinrocket, I'm begging. Please PLEASE add support for high-resolution exporting to an update soon.

Funny app to mess with.

@Nelson: it's written on iTunes that they are working on higher resolution export. :)

Yeah David, I did see that shortly after my tirade...just seems to me that it should have been an obvious inclusion in 2.0. Pet peeve of mine I guess. But I am glad to hear they are at least working on it.
