Turn your iPhone in to a retro looking camera, with the GIZMON iCA camera case and system

GIZMON, one of the early adopters of add-on camera lenses for the iPhone have just launched the iCA case. Designed to look like an old school camera, this case offers bags of real camera like features, accessories and the ability to attached their macro and fisheye lenses.

This polycarbonate case offers a real shutter release button that can be used with the default camera app, or any other app that supports Apple's shutter button feature, a micro hot shoe (not sure what this would be used for), a standard tripod mount, and more interestingly an "optical viewfinder", although I am not sure how accurate this would be.

Whilst this case may look a little silly, and maybe overkill, what I find most interesting about this offering, is the list of add-ons known as the iCA System, which will include a telephoto lens, leather case, plus wrist and neck straps.

With the full range of accessories and pricing of these accessories yet to be announced, the GIZMON iCA case alone can be had for a whopping $65.00 USD from the Four Corner Store, and is available in black, white or brown.

More information on the GIZMON iCA case and iCA System can be found over on gizmon.com.

It looks nice enough I guess and the range of accessories sounds interesting. It's different, I'll give them that. But at $65 for the (plastic) case alone, it's a complete rip-off. Anyone who pays that has more money than sense. I do like it, but not enough to pay the ridiculous asking price.

I'd buy a real camera before I bought that.

I like it. I may just pick one up on my next payday. I like the idea of making it look more camera-like for street photography. The price is a bit steep, but it's not excessive. Yeah, I'm definitely going to get one.

hopefully we can get a comparison with the iProLens system as they are fairly close in price.. but it seems like the Gizmon one offers more accessory add-on options.. thx!

That's cool and all, but seriously... isn't this sort of thing starting to get a little absurd? ;)

haha this made me laugh... why not just buy a point and shoot instead of this?? It will cost the same amount, it will be slimmer and it will actually take way better photos! one of the biggest appeals of iphone photography is the fact that people around you cant tell that you're taking pictures so its excellent for street photography. As soon as you put this stupid case on with that reflective mirror that will make people blind in the sun, EVERYONE will know you're taking photos. What's the point?

I love this! A "real camera" doesn't have a phone in it :) I just may have to get one of these.

You could try a Polaroid decal from Photojojo for alternative ;-) I cut a smal part near the camera and the flash to put the magnetic ring for detachable lenses,

I do like this.(purely aesthetics) There are many iPhone cases that are designed to make it look like a proper camera. (not as nicely designed as this). But my main problem with all this is that i prefer shooting with one hand(right hand) and if you want the shutter button to be on the top and still hold the iPhone with one hand, than rest of the fingers will cover the camera.

I believe that the image apple shows about the ios5 shutter button is not ergonomically correct and i think it will be very difficult to use the phone the way they show it in the picture. (http://files.petapixel.com/assets/uploads/2011/06/shutterbutton.jpg) try to hold your phone like this to take a picture, its really uncomfortable.

I understand that the second function as a shutter release for the volume up button is a bonus feature. But as more and more people are using iPhone's to take picture I hope there will be better solution for one hand iPhone shooters like me. The closest thing that i have seen is the iShuttr case that was on kickstater. And it dint got fully funded and i think they abandoned the project as ios5 introduced a physical button. i hope they revive the project and make the case thinner so I can still use my lens adapters.

I know these are a lot of things to ask for, but this are the difficulties faced by me while taking pictures with the iphone. As a personal 2012 resolution I will try to solve this issue.

Sorry for the long comment, i wanted to say this for a long time but dint got a chance to let it
out.
