Camera+… Now with Clarity!

As reported last week, today, Camera+ update with added "Clarity" hit the App Store.

Here is what the developers have to say about "Clarity"

"Clarity is one of the biggest breakthroughs to happen to image processing in a long time. Simply put, it can make your photos look truly stunning with just one tap.

We created Clarity to help turn all the shots you take into perfect photos. Clarity analyzes your photos and makes several intelligent adjustments that magically bring out details and breathe life into dull photos. There’s no need to futz with complicated and confusing controls… behind the scenes, we do all that and more for you through innovative “smart-processing”.

And with Clarity, you’ll stop throwing out “bad” photos… you’ll be amazed to see what it can do to photos that you’d typically consider unusable, like shots that came out too dark.

The results are so good that you’re going to think that we sold our souls to achieve them. >:-)"

In addition to Clarity, this update of Camera+ has the following features and improvements:

  • they've added a ‘+’ button to the touch focus control to enable you to easily split it into focus and exposure controls (you can still use the two-finger tap to do this)… THAT’S what the ‘+’ in the app icon was supposed to represent all along!
  • multiple photos are now saved to your Camera Roll according to the order they were selected
  • they've made it clearer when your camera is autofocusing
  • improved Pinhole effect
  • improved Vintage border
  • fixed a bug where the shutter button sometimes wouldn’t work
  • fixed a bug where photos could’ve been saved to your Camera Roll with an incorrect date/time taken
  • fixed a bug where the timer countdown time could get stuck on the screen
  • fixed a bug where the Cancel buttons in sharing sometimes wouldn’t work
  • various minor bug fixes and enhancements

I have to say have downloaded and.... if you use the clarity in conjunction with the vibrant colour fx you get an amazing pic! The colours on even some of my dullest pictures just pop out more so than any other app I have even HDR ones. If only you could make macros in this app so you can select a few effects and just have a button to say go every time.. Developers thats a hint ;)

also cheekily asking on here but... does anyone know of any decent Photo Mosaic apps that produce pictures from your photo library and dont rely on changing the colour of the tile rather than it uses the closest coloured one? Picture pieces is the closest thing I can find but you unfortunately have to select each image separately and can't save to camera roll :S

I really love this app, quite easily the best photography app on my iPod touch. I have no idea what the Auto Focus is for though, because it doesn't seem to change anything on the Touch. Or am I completely wrong in this?

Ok...the clarity feature is a welcome addition, but let's not get carried away by the "awesomeness" claims. It's not an automatic improvement for all photos. Improvement to the sharpness and contrast like the PerfectlyClear photo app would be nice, as well as the ability to stack effects. Over all, the additional features in the upgrade just add to an already great app. Keep up the good work. Still competing with CameraGenius, ProCamera, and PictureShow.

Couple of things that would make this truly awesome!!!

1) An easy one.. upload to instagram (if thats possible??)
2) Batch Converting (Select multiple files or an album)
3) Macro's (Select Clarity, Color Vibrant, Color Polarize and Border Viewfinder)
4) Video with Pre/Post Processing (THE DADDY OF THEM ALL!! would make it my most used app)

Granted 2 and 3 potentially could take ages but a progress bar and warning about time taken wouldnt hurt?

4 would be nice :D could charge £5.00 for all that and it would be worth it

Hmmm... the ad on youtube was actually well done even if too long. I am however a bit uneasy with the "breakthrough" word here. What I do see is sort of auto-levels with a little of dynamic light -like effect. I compared the shots and it is pretty much the same as Dynamic Light on 1/4 of the dial. Anyway, still got it for 99cents and it is of course well worth it.
I updated it today and there were two updates the Camera+ and Dynamic Light 1.5

Fingers crossed this post managed to get through to those who may find it useful.

Comparison of Clarity, Perfectly Clear and Dynamic Light on a darkly lit subject. I think the images speak for themselves.

I must admit that I haven’t used the clarity mode that much yet, but using words such as “awesome” and “breakthrough” seems like pushing it a bit. Even if I haven’t hidden my dislike for the latest updates of Perfectly Clear that well, that app is still in its own class when it comes to image enhancement.

That said the new mode still shows a lot of potential. I would also like the possibility of having macros (or presets as some apps call it).

However, I must say that I really liked the commercial. If I hadn’t already bought the app, this commercial had made me do it. Please don’t stop with this one, make it a habit of having these two acting with every release of an update of the app.

Not too sure about this dodgy video though...

I happily use Camera+ for over a month now...Two things about the preset "Clarity"...
It is really amazing...In terms of contrast, detail with good (day) light conditions is really unparalleled..The only flows are: it introduces a severe amount of noise...So when you crop (or zoom in) the Photo it gets blurred and blurred...At night it introduces odd artifacts to light...Especially if you use the flash....

That's it....Bye
