The "UN01" iPhone 4 Camera Case
Tuesday, March 8, 2011 at 8:39PM |
Glyn Evans Here's a nifty iPhone 4 case idea from Kickstarter startup company UN Design.
The UN01 is a case designed to give your iPhone 4 that camera look, with a raised camera lens bezel design, and a neck strap that places the camera at a convenient location for instant access.

For more information on this case, check out the UN Design Kickstarter page.?

I like the idea of the neck strap for easy access but would be worried about it swinging into buttons or zips on your clothing. I'd also worry about the attachment string to the case itself not holding up to frequent swinging around.
A 'lens' block of plastic that seems to serve little purpose other than for those times you drop the device (if you drop it that often something's amiss and/or you're better off with a 'protective' case.)
It adds 1/2cm thickness to the device.
It looks plastic and cheap.
There seems to be no screen cover.
Thanks for sharing but this isn't for me I'm afraid.
The design is visually pleasing but the added thickness and dubious practicality of a neck strap for the iPhone as a camera makes it a 'no, thanks' from me.
MAJOR DESIGN FLAW!!!!
The camera/flash hole is designed wrong on that device. When you use the flash you will get flash ghosting and shadows. Any case that has a flash design like that has issues when using the flash.
Why would someone who is developing something for photography users develop the case so close to the flash when it is generally known that cases that have edges near the flash cause the flash to bounce back into the image creating ghosting and weird light artifacts.
They should redesign. The flash hole should be a big oval like this:

That is my current phone case and I love it.
I went through three other cases that had flash issues because they were designed like this:

@rfbarr As a new iPhone 4 owner (but old 3G and 3GS owner for years) I would never have known about the flash issue. Thanks for sharing.
Your case looks absolutely amazing! I may have to get myself one as I am currently caseless.
@rfbarr Thank you for the valuable feedback. We have taken the necessary steps to rectify this and will be corrected in the production version.
un01 that is very good to hear. I look forward watching development further. thanks for your response. I will give you guys some funding on kick starter.
