Photo Challenge: Through the Lens of an iPhone

Some weeks ago there was a post in the forums asking if the iPhoneography blog would be running a photo contest, and whilst this was something I had wanted to do for a long time, I just didn't have the time needed to run such a contest.

Well, that was then, and this is now, and so today, I am please to announce the iPhoneography blog is launching its monthly photo challenge called "Through the Lens of an iPhone". At present there are no prizes, there will be no winners or losers, the challenge is just for fun. Each month I will set a theme, and for those who wish to take part in the challenge, you just need to tag and upload your photo/photos to the "Through the Lens of an iPhone" Flickr group, and that's it; Oh, and of course feel free to discuss and comment on your photos.

The theme of the first "Through the Lens of an iPhone" photo challenge is: Black & White

To get started, head over to the Through the Lens of an iPhone Flickr group, and start uploading and discussing your photos.

RULES:

As with all photo contests/challenges, there should be some rules, and so here are the rules.

  1. All photos MUST be taken with an iPhone or iPod Touch 4G.
  2. All photos MUST be edited on an iPhone or iPod Touch 4G, no computer edited photos please.
  3. Please tag your photo with the theme and app/apps used. i.e. "April 2011, Vint B&W"
  4. Only 3 photos per month, per person can be submitted, and these must correspond with that months theme.
  5. Keep all comments objective, as no bullying or nasty comments will be tolerated, and anyone found to be breaking this rule will be banned from the group for good.
  6. By uploading your photos to the Flickr group, you agree to the iPhoneography blog posting them here at www.iphoneography.com. Please note: your photos will NOT be displayed or used by the iPhoneography blog anywhere else without written permission from you, the photographer/copyright owner.

What about iPads and iPods? Can photos be taken with them or edited on them?

Bob, I'm sure he means any Apple iDevice. Same apps and capabilities.

@Bob, I would say yes to iPod Touch 4G, but not to iPad, and have updated the rules to reflect this.

Sounds like fun, Glyn! Thanks for setting it all up. I look forward to seeing everyone's images.

And, btw, I love your site. It's so informative and helpful and I appreciate all the work you put into it.

This sounds fun! A question: do the photos need to have been taken during the month of the particular contest, or can older photos, assuming they meet the entry criteria, be submitted?
April 3, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterTom Myler
@Tom, new or old photos can be used.

Some really nice photos already posted.

Hi. Hope you can help me out with this. I'm new to Flickr, but yesterday I signed in and uploaded my three photos to the B&W contest. The trouble is, that I can see them only when logged in - the pictures disappear when I try to browse the group photos when logged out and also none of my friends can see them (even when they are logged in under their names).

What am I doing wrong? Are the pictures there and visible for other members of the group?

Thanks for your help.

Have you set them to private? Please can you send me a link to you photos via the contact page,

Why just the 4g?
April 16, 2011 | Unregistered CommenterAJ
AJ, because the iPod Touch 4G is the iPod Touch that can take photos.

Glyn, hello,
love your blog, love the idea of Through the Lens of an iPhone...

but what about us poor gals who still have an iPhone 3GS because we had to join a 18 months contract? are we to be excluded? I take 100s of photos every day using numerous apps, and am constantly experimenting and looking for new ways to use my iPhone camera.

We would like to join too, please Glyn ;)

Hi black_and_w, the challenge is open to all iPhone users regardless of model and those with camera enabled iPod Touch 4G's, so please join, and I look forward to seeing your iPhone photos ;)

Thanks Glyn, looking forward to it...

Please pick me! YOu have no idea what I've been through trying to get an ipod! Its a hobby and a passion for me, not just a toy!

I know it's an old thread now.. But I had the same issue as Viggou above re pics being set as Private. I use FX Photostudio at the moment for uploading my shots and for some reason all of them upload as Private by default. So I have to log in and change the privacy settings for them on Flickr.

There is probably a settings somewhere in Fx that will change it, but I'm so busy trying out the myriad of Apps at the moment that I haven't had time to check it out ;-)

Cheers

Robbie

Glyn,

One of the rules is to tag your photos with the theme or app used. What if it's an old photo and you don't recall which app you used to process it?
