App Update: Hipstamatic 210 is now in the App Store

Hipstamatic 210, which I announced yesterday, is now in the App Store, and with it come the new and free Buckhorst lens, and the optional [in-app purchase] Bondi HipstaPak.

Here is the full rundown of what you'll find in Hipstamatic 210.

 • Twitter sharing (with images hosted by Hipstamatic)
 • New free lens: Buckhorst H1
 • New Bondi HipstaPak: featuring the Ben Watts lens -- only available until September
 • Pinch-to-enlarge viewfinder (with tap-anywhere photo shooting while zoomed)
 • Push notifications for new FreePaks, awesome contests, and other important Hipsta-news
 • Completely rewritten-from-scratch and redesigned Recent Prints section
 • Stacks no longer have a print limit
 • Viewing of contest leaderboards and details in-app (and removal of the Flickr account requirement for entry)
 • Ability to order prints and analog products from the Hipstamart in-app

App Store Link: Hipstamatic; Price: £0.59/$0.99/€0.79

Editors comments: Whilst I know there are many of you who are not big fans of this app, and I am one of them, Hipstamatic can and does with the right film/lens combination produce some really nice looking photos, and if you are cack handed*, then this app can help you get some better looking photos.

*My wife is cack handed, and struggles to hold the iPhone steady, frame the shot and then tap the native camera app shutter button, and as a result she rarely takes any photos with her iPhone, but on our recent trip to Egypt, I encouraged her to try Hipstamatic, and she found the app with its smaller viewer and big shutter button much easier to use, and she got some cracking shots, although she did find the array of film and lens combinations a bit daunting, and so relied to the shake to randomize feature, which did always work out for the best.

Like the new album layout, but I've noticed that the iPhone gets very hot and the battery drains rather quickly. I like the full-screen viewfinder (had to figure out how to use it, but found it by accident). Going to try it out the next few days.

also see the battery really taking a drop when using the newest version also. Anyone else have the issue. The last version did not effect or put a huge drain on battery.

Can someone double check the findings.

Had no issue like this before and do not see it with any other iphotography app I have been using to date. Will keep a eye in it but I do see a big usage, wonder if a fix is in the works already?

What's your findings...?

I additionally have a complaint / observation:

I also found that (and have submitted a bug report) that I can't delete unwanted pictures from the app. I take them out of my phone "Photo Roll" but they continue to show in the app "recent prints" field. While not a huge issue or deal breaker it certainly is annoying. I haven't seen substantial battery drain at all and used it almost continuously on Saturday night.

The random frame on the new Bondi HIpstapak is interesting but I don't necessarily see much more obvious image change on the end result. Without much of an explanation of what the product was... I bought blindly. Not a huge disappointment but a little better explanation would have been nice (or even a sample image like they used to do would have been great).

I totally love this app.

Best thing about Hipstamatic is that Synthetic (the makers) are always adding extra stuff and it's constantly evolving.

The styles are great, the resolution is great and in the right hands can really come up with some good results.

..likewise in the wrong hands, it also has a way of coming up with some good shots :)

I never thought the day would come, but I've deleted Hipstamatic from my phone. The fact you cant save your stacks to your camera roll, together with the numerous crashes I could live with - justabout - but it's the battery drain and the 'hot-as-coal' iPhone after less than an hours use that I cant. The lack of response from the uhur 'support' site is noteworthy also.

What a shame, t'was all going so well.

I'll be back, possibly, when they adress the issues. Until then, it's Cameramatic all the way for me. Better filters (in fact, infinite filters thanks to the built-in filter editor) and exposure controls make it for me.

Sorry Glyn to keep hijacking your site, but I'm getting very frustrated with V210 here.

Some more testing over the past few days.

Fully charged phone, no 3G, all notifications off, all other network-battery-draining nonsense off (push, location, Ping, iTunes, twitter, facebook etc etc). Just me. And my Hipstamatic 210. Nice sunny day.

After

- about one hour of photography
- and about 25 to 30 pictures
- using only Helga Viking & Teja lens
- and the Blanko, Big Up, Claunch 72 and BlacKeys films

I'm down to

- 68% battery

and my

- iPhone is very hot.

Clearly everyones mileage may vary, but something is wrong here. I've never noticed such battery drain with previous versions (trust me, you'd have heard).

Photowalks with my Hipstamatic will be a thing of the past at this rate. Not so much a walk as a photosprint before either the battery drains or the phone melts.

Shoulder bags are one of the most popular type of camera bag and are designed to allow convenient access to your photo gear. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes , the downside is that that all the weight is carried on one shoulder so can become tiring the more gear you carry.
