Iris is currently my goto app for editing for going on a month now.

I have found Iris especially good to use when layering images, once you know the trick of making the first image the base image in the Layers section, then importing the next image and blending with base, again in Layers -- you have all the usual blend modes and can easily mask to selectively apply layers or effects. I find it much easier to use for this sort of thing than Filterstorm or Photoforge2. Also, the Color Sense tool is really easy to use when selectively removing colors, or changing colors in an image.
