Photo Challenge: Through the Lens of an iPhone

So, it's the 1st of August and time to start a new iPhone photo challenge.

Now I've never been a big fan, or user of Hipstamatic, but following a great article in this months "Black+White Photography" magazine, about photographer Lee Frost, who on a recent trip to Cuba, ditched his DSLR, "and used his iPhone 4 and Hipstamatic to capture the character of the people and places he encountered".

So inspired by this article I have been shooting with Hipstamatic myself, and have decided this months theme for the "Through the Lens of an iPhone" challenge will be:

"Shot with Hipstamatic"

Last month I banned and removed a few people for not keeping to the rules, and deleted a number of none themed photos, but from this month forward, I will BAN ALL who do not keep to the spirit of the challenge.

Please read the rules, and don't get yourself banned!!

I understand "Shot with Hipstamatic", but is post post-processing with other apps allowed or is it pure Hipstamatic?

Wondering the same as 'Just Wondering' above...

I have that copy of Black&White magazine (which is really worth getting BTW), and yeah it's very inspiring. Also he's using some tool in photoshop which blows pics up with amazing detail, the full page pics look incredibly clear...

I have just updated this post to clarify what will and won't be accepted for this months challenge.

That's a pity. I only use Hipstamatic very occassionally for portrait shots and I always post process using other apps. Have a good August and I'll be back in September:)

Sorry for being dumb, but as I'm new to this, I would like to ask you how I can participate and upload my photos?

Regards, Stefan

Am I allowed to use my macro/wide angle lenses for these shots?

My phone is jail broken. Therefore, whenever I upload photos, it doesn't include all of the EXIF data. Is that okay? i don't want to be banned.

Did not find in the rules that the images have to be shot in August. Older Hipstamatic photos allowed?

Does Metadata only show on Hipstamatic when uploading from Hipstamatic?

Alright, I finally bought Hipstamatic after putting it off for so long. I'm definitely going to go for this challenge. Thanks Glyn for pushing iphoneography.

@Confused: Yes, I found that Metadata only show Hipstamatic when uploaded with the Hipstamatic App. I first uploaded with the Flickr app, which I normally use, but looking at the EXIF data, it only mentioned Flickr, not Hipstamatic.

I hesitated to give Hipstamatic permission to post to my Flickr account, because the app wanted to have permission to change and replace pictures. But as I couldn't find any comments or problems from other users, I went ahead with it.

So, I have a question...Do people just have problems reading directions? Sorry...Not trying to be crazy, but I thought the rules CLEARLY stated that there could be no post-processing, yet looking at some of the pics posted in the last 24 hrs, there CLEARLY are...some even with tags. LOL! Come on people!!!!

I don't understand why you guys have such poor reading comprehension skills. The rules are very clear. If you can't follow them, don't submit! It seems very simple. I'm going to participate by looking at the entries :) Good luck to those of you who submit!

I guess people really don't read the rules, do they? I've been going through the group to favorite a few photos and so many of them are either not taken with Hipstamatic, or they were processed further outside of Hipstamatic. That's got to be completely frustrating for you, Glyn.

I think people are a bit naughty and do what I accidentally did, which is send an upload to a number of groups at the same time without a thought for any restrictions of those groups. Not sure what the solution is, apart from just banning people...

@Tania, yes it is very frustrating trying to filter out the non compliant entrants!!

I only use Hipstamatic very occassionally for portrait shots and I always post process using other apps. It will be fun to enter and see what happens
