Glyn Evans Above: Gordon with the captive audience, taken with the wide-angle Olloclip lens, and enhanced using Orasis app.Last Thursday I had the pleasure of attending the Apple Store in Covent Garden, London, where Gordon Fraser gave a talk about his journey through photography, from traditional film, to digital, to iPhoneography.
Gordon talked to a captive audience of between 40 and 50 people about how he was left a medium format camera by a deceased relative, which in turn got him in to photography. He then went on to talk about how he moved from film to digital, before (and following a failed smartphone upgrade) he chanced upon a friends iPhone, and discovered a whole new world of photography, more commonly referred to as iPhoneography.
Gordon explained how he was already familiar with the iPhone, as he was a regular follower and reader of professional photographer Chase Jarvis' blog, who was already shooting casual photos with his iPhone and app, "Best Camera".
Gordon went on to explain how he discovered this whole new world/community of iPhoneography (the iPhoneography blog even got a mention :) Thanks Gordon), showing examples from other well known iPhoneographers as well as his own work. Gordon explained how he sees an object (like a building), the vision, and how he creates the final image through a series of steps, and applying different apps (just like this example Gordon shared with the iPhoneography blog here).
The whole talk was both interesting, informative and well received, lasting about 1hr, with a question and answer session at the end.
Side Note: At the event, I had the great pleasure of meeting with Gordon, Robson Santos, Matt Brock (and partner) Nettie Edwards (although this was not the first time we'd met), David Graham (an impressive iPhone portrait photographer), the people from MobiTog (sorry we didn't get time to talk), and last but not least, Allan Mullan (who I stood and chatted to during the event), and to those people, I'd just like to say a big thank you for making me feel so welcomed, both before and after the event.
Apology: I'm sorry if I haven't mentioned your name above, but I have a bad memory for names. I know that I have missed at least 2 people off, so if you are one of those, then I'd also like to say thank you for the warm welcome, and if you drop me an email, then I'll make sure you are kept in the loop for any future meet ups I attend in London.
