CineCam, a new Social Movie Making App for the iPhone

CineCam is billed as a new "Social Movie Making App for the iPhone 4" that according to the developer is "jam packed with features, that allows you to shoot and create a whole new world of amazing movies and share them with your friends, simply filter and film the world around you."

CineCam features include;

  • The best real-time video effects: see your video as it will look when you’ve recorded it — full screen.
  • Change filters, packs and effects in real-time, and whilst recording
  • Movie Stitching allows you to pause and resume recording
  • Geo tag your movies
  • Share to Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and via Email
  • Playback and re-share your movies from the Playback area
  • Export your movies to the Camera Roll
  • Get Professional filming tips, just take a look at “Techniques”
  • Earn credits to spend on new CinePacks each time you share!
  • 3,000 free credits to get you started!

According to the developers, CineCam offers "the best resolution possible for realtime video processing", but I would question this, as my test video was a very poor 320x224, which is low definition.

This app also uses a point scoring system, that you use to buy effects. When you install the app, you are given 3,000 points to get you started, but you will soon use these up. To earn more points to buy new effects, you will need to share your videos via the "community".

In addition to the strange point scoring system used to gain new effects, the apps UI offers nothing to write home about, with the UI being presented the wrong way round, so that the camera lens is located in the bottom right-hand corner, perfect for being obscured by your fingers!!

Overall I think this is a very poor app, that is not worth paying for, and one that gets a big thumbs down from me.

This app is terrible. It promises a lot thorugh its stunning graphic design, at first i tought it was like a Hipstamatic video version, but the effects are terrible. I installed it, probed and deleted it.
