Take a Shot in the Dark with NightCap

NightCap from interealtime.com is in my opinion the best slow shutter speed app currently available for the iPhone, which has just been updated with full iPhone 5 support.

So what's new?

  • Full iPhone 5 support
  • New iPhone 5 optimised interface with much improved controls
  • Supports iPhone 5 High ISO mode (boosts ISO from 800 to 3200)
  • New Burst mode (available in settings)
  • TIFF and HQ JPEG support for higher photo quality (available in settings)
  • More responsive: Exposure time is limited to 1/3s for faster handling and less blur (you can disable this in the settings if you prefer the full 1 second exposure time)
  • Photo sharing: Share via email, twitter or facebook
  • Photo printing
  • Easily open photos in your favourite editing app
  • Full iOS 6 support
  • Many fixes and improvements

App Store Link: NightCap; Price: £0.69/$0.99/€0.79

There's an unfortunate bug in this version - it'll crash if you enable TIFF output (it works fine with JPEG or HQ JPEG). Sorry about that - it worked perfectly in the test versions, but 'turned bad' in the version released by Apple, which wasn't something we could have predicted! A fix was sent to Apple before xmas, so I'm sure it'll be released any day now.

If anyone has questions or any feedback on the app fire away :)
Also awaiting a bug fix so that geotagging can be activated in the settings - it remains off no matter what you do at present.

I agree that it is the best low light / slow shutter speed camera app around at present.

Just downloaded an update 20130101 and confirmed that the geotagging issue has been fixed. My Happy New Year is complete. :-)

Hey,

i am realy into long exposure images but I find myself often without my DSLR camera at the right place and time. So I was thinking about buying an iphone (4s or 5) for the goog photo quality...

But I find most pictures taken with these "long exposure" Apps rather blurry even taken with an tripod.

So what is you opinin on that? Do you think you can get crips long exposure imgages.

Sorry for this bad english - german and its early in the morning ;)

btw: like this blog a lot - inspired me to think about buying an iphone
