Hipstamatch™, the Hipsters friend

Whether you're an Hipstamatic newbie, or a seasoned pro, the array of lens/film combinations, can at times be a little overwhelming, but thanks to Hipstamatch™ from Fresly, selecting the right lens/film combination has just got that little bit easier.

With Hipstamatch™ you can now quickly and easily see what effect a lens and film combination can have on a photo. This is done by selecting one of the apps predefined images, then with the swipe of your finger, alter the lenses and a films to reveal what that combination looks like.

Essentially, Hipstamatch™ offers the same features as those found on many of the Hipstamatic lens/film combination guide web sites that are out there, like Schmutzie's Hipstamatic Lens, Film, and Pak Guide, but packaged up in an easy to use, always with you, universal app, and at just £0.69/$0.99/€0.79, is a useful tool, and a must have companion app for all Hipstamatic fans.

Please note: Hipstamatch™ does not contain the most recent HipstaPak's, but Fresly do promise to keep this app up to date, as new HipstaPak's are released.

why is this a separate app? this knowledge should be part of that synthetic hipstamashite - given their exorbitant pricing structure and the recent insipid updates.

I really like this app and think it's definitely worth buying if you use Hipstamatic. The UI is excellent, and the app is universal. It's great on an iPhone, but it really shines on an iPad.

That being said, I do have one concern. I don't think these images are real photos taken with Hipstamatic. I think they're photoshop manipulations meant to create the look you'd get with each lens/film combination. That's not necessarily a bad thing if the images are accurate representations, but I'm not sure they all are, especially when it comes to some of the light leak effects. They just don't look quite right to me. Also, I think a few of the images are wrong. The Buckhorst H1/DC combo, for example. The Zoo/Watertower shot is pink, and that's not right. I also think the James M / DC watertower shot might belong to Lucas/DC, and the Lucas/DC watertower shot might belong to James M.

Like I said though, I still think the app is worth a buck as a general guide. It's easily the best Hipstamatic lens/film guide I've ever seen.

Hey hey hey, rangster, be fair. This isn't a separate app by the makers of Hipstamatic. It's by an entirely different developer who apparently thought he could do a better job of helping people figure out Hipstamatic lens/film combinations, and for the most part, I think he's done a great job.

This "knowledge" is contained in the Hipstamatic Field Guide, created by Synthetic (the makers of Hipstamatic) and it's free on their website, not to mention that sites like iPhoneography tend to cover it pretty thoroughly. I do think Synthetic (the makers of Hipstamatic) could do a better job of documenting their app... although, to be fair, their documentation and support is better than what most apps offer (very few apps do a good job of support and documentation).

This app is by an entirely different developer.

I agree with Rob.

I'd add personally that I don't find the last two paks "insipid". The previous one, containing Loftus, has changed the way I use Hipstamatic, and the new "America" pak has definitely filled a couple of voids with a new cool-toned lens and a borderless film.

I was getting a wee bit bored with Hipstamatic several months ago, and the Disposable pricing structure all but put me under the bridge. (Too bad, because the Foxy lens is a masterpiece and the free D-Fault is not bad.) But they seem to be back on an interesting and unpredictable track now.

I like Hipstamatic and this app, Hipstamatch. I've every pack for Hipstamatic too. My concern is there are far more films and lenses in Hipstamatch than there actually are in Hipstamatic. How can this be? Ex: I don't have a "Hornbecker" Lens despite having all the Hipstamatic packs. Am I missing something?
February 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRodney
Hi Rodney, it looks like you've missed some of the paks along the way.

Hi Glyn, that may be possible, but I have all the available ones obtainable via in-aop purchase in Hipstamatic. When scrolling through Hipstamatic, they all say "mine". Are there other packs to be purchase from other sources?
February 22, 2012 | Unregistered CommenterRodney
Hi Rodney, this lens was part of the Nike NSW pak, which I think was a limited edition one, that you may have missed.

Ah I see. It's true I didn't buy all of the limited editions. :(

I really wanted a "regular" lens and liked that Hornbecker lens :(

Thanks for your help!

Hornbecker is a good lens, but it can be a bit too bright, especially outdoors. I tend to use the James M lens as my "regular" lens. If you have that one, definitely check it out.

Hi Rob,

Unfortunately, I don't have the James M lenses either. I'm quite sure I've only purchased the "always available" packs, but none of the limited edition ones. :(

But, when looking at that lense in Hipstamatch, it seems "warm" to me, with a reddish tint, compared to the Hornbecker. I'm looking at the suny, backlit picture of the living room with two easy-chairs, using Blanko, Blanko Noir or Ina's 1969 films (who tend to be neutral).

Currently I use Jimmy S and Loftus (which seems like Hornbecker except top and bottom is slight blurred).

I checked Hipstamatic's support: they "may" hold a re-release of the limited editions, but so far no plan to do so. But the did this back in June 2011, so there is still hope hahaha.

I won't let a limited edition pass by me again! Hahaha

Congratulations on your website. Found it almost by accident after I bought my first iPhone 4 a couple of weeks ago and fallen in love with its fantastic photography apps. Your website became a reference to me. Many thanks. Hope I have the time to take some cool pictures to share with you.
