"Giulietta on Ice", an Alfa Romeo UK iPhone video

Just before Christmas I was approached by Performance PR Ltd, and asked if I would like to watch them shoot a video with a difference for Alfa Romeo. Intrigued, I said yes, and on the 5th January 2012 I headed to the venue, which was the SkyDome in Coventry, where I met with Dominic Vizor and the rest of the team.

The video, which was shot entirely on iPhones using FiLMiC Pro, included an Alfa Romeo Giulietta, an ice rink, two professional ice hockey players from Team Blaze, a stunt driver (Paul Swift), a film director and of course (the rest of us) the film crew.

The day went well, with the Giulietta's "Vehicle Dynamic Control" system performing well on the ice, and against the two ice hockey players. The Giulietta with the aid of stunt driver Paul Swift even managed to score a goal or two (see video).

In total there were about 6 iPhones used with a bunch of accessories (see kit list below), which included my DiffCase protected iPhone 4, which was magnetically attached to the car bonnet and drivers door with the aid of my Joby Gorillapod Magnetic, before being spun around the ice.

The kit used on the day included:

So now you know what, when and how, now here it is, the video in all its glory ;)

I love this video! It looked like such fun filming. We had snow this weekend so had to used the D.N.A button, and it really does work well! Alfa seem to be creating some great fun videos at the moment, it wasn't so long ago they realease the world record attempt for smashing the water balloons with a Mito.

This is awesome! And sort of comforting, since I'm starting a film project using many of the same equipment items they used!

"This is really cool, I'm definitely going to send this round to the guys at my hockey club.. I LOVE that iphone mount.
Also I can't believe that it's this grownup looking car that they chose for this stunt!

hi all.

i guess i'm not making any friends with this but... for me, this video is waaay behind of what can really be achieved by filming with the iphone 4 or the 4S. I wrote my Bachelor Thesis about Professional Video Producing using Smartphones and i have to say i've seen many many videos looking much better than this. :)

but hey, i think this is cool and you do too. so, nothing to argue here. :)

Hi Alex. I know that I was at the filming (I was just one of the camera crew), but I have to agree with you, the quality, and this video could and should have be far better than it is.
