Sponsored Post: Paint FX: Photo Effects Editor is now available on the iPad

Press Release: February, 6th, 2011 - Fremont, CA, - Sprite Labs is proud to announce the release of the updated version of Paint FX - Photo Effects Editor for iOS. The new version features extended collection of filters and effects, even more easy-to-use interface, high resolution photos and iPad support. With the update Paint FX becomes universal app that works perfectly across all iOS devices. The app has already been featured as New and Noteworthy in 15 countries.

Right after initial release, Paint FX got "New and Noteworthy" and "Staff Favorite" banners thanks to its unique feature. Paint FX is the first app on the App Store that gives users the ability to decide whether to adjust the whole picture, or just a certain part of it. The choice is not limited to just one effect - Paint FX also allows applying multiple effects on top of each other. The app is perfect for adding just a little bit of flair or completely re-imagine a photo.

With Paint FX anyone can create professionally looking photos with just a few taps without any special knowledge. Users can easily change the color of the hair and clothes or give themselves a tan. Wide collection of filters and photo effects, which was significantly extended with the update, allows users to express themselves in tons of different ways. Such filters as Sketch, Hue, Cartoonize, and Threshold will easily turn photos into professional looking pieces.

All filters and effects are 100% customizable. Users can customize each effect and apply as many effects as they want on one picture. There is also a possibility to control brightness, contrast, and saturation with pinpoint accuracy. The app is comprehensive and the design is nice and clean and users can easily indulge their creativity and share it with the world.

"Since the launch of Paint FX on the iPhone, we have had tons of requests for an iPad version. We spent a lot of time to make sure we have the right interface on the bigger screen and pack each pixel perfectly. We are pleased to finally bring the app to the iPad along with an update to the iPhone with a large set of new effects and features to allow even more creativity through an easy to use interface. We can’t wait to see how users enhance their photos with this new version."- says Nikita Sawant, Creative Director at Sprite Labs.

No offense Glyn, but I'm a bit confused. Last June you reviewed Paint FX for the iPhone and you were not too thrilled with it, especially as it was very low res. in addition, you posted in July about Sprite Labs quoting you in their description of the app and you stated you were disappointed and going to notify them. What gives? Sprite now pays you to promote their app on your blog?
Does this mean you won't review it or you will be obligated to give it a good review? I must admit, I'm a bit disappointed, I respect both you and Marty as far as the review process and this seems a bit seedy to me. Just my opinion of course. But if all developers pay you for a sponsored post, does that mean you are no longer go make fair and honest app reviews?
Just because Sprite paid for this doesn't mean I'm going to jump on the bandwagon to go purchase it. I wasn't too impressed with Paint FX for the iPhone, and I'm suspicious of their high res claim.
Does anyone know if this app is truly high res? This just seems a bit weird Glyn, especially concerning your previous reviews of Sprite Labs.

Hi Suze. Thanks for your comments, and I understand your concerns, which is why I've yet to provide feedback on the app. I've not had chance to play with the app for any significant time, but it does appear to be an improvement over the previous versions, and resolution has improved.

I will be writing a mini review of the app, and as always I will say if it's good or bad, regardless of whether the dev is a paid advertiser.

For anyone else with the same concerns as Suze, this post is what it is, a paid for advert, and is not an endorsement by me for this app.

I hope this helps address any concerns :)

One of the fastest deletes of an app I've ever made! Crashes when trying to load an image on both my iPhone 4s (2 of them) and iPad 2 (both with most up-to-date iOS).

@Joshua, that's odd, as it's not crashing on my iPhone 4 or iPad 2. That said, whilst the app is OK, it still doesn't support full-res saves!!!

I actually thought the app was well designed and is in fact fun to play with. It could add some more sharing options, but I've been spending a lot of time on it to edit photos before putting them on Instagram and no major complaints so far.

Glyn, I'm with Suze on this. A pad add on the side is fine and doesn't imply an endorsement, but you have my trust based on past reviews and I almost bought this one just because you were featuring it. Luckily, I didn't based on other's experience with it, but I DID buy PhotoToaster based solely on your review and am glad I did. These sponsored posts are using your good cred and the devs know it. It's your blog of course but I will be hesitant to just buy an app just because it appears here from here on out.

Hello Fellow iPhoneographers,

Sorry if the app doesnt meet your taste and requirements for right now. We are continually improving the app and will have the full resolution support in the next update. Currently it does support 2048 x 2048 on iPHone 4, 4G, iPad2, and we are working on getting full support.

But to give the readers a summary of how well the app is being perceived so far, it has 4.5 stars average out of 5 in 67 ratings in US App Store alone. Apple has featured the app as "New and Noteworthy" on the Featured section in 15 countries, including US, so its not just Glyn writing about it, but Apple, and several hundred reviewers.

Its also the #1 Top Photo and Video Paid App in US, Mexico, South Africa and in the top 5 in more than 10 countries. So, it certainly might be something you may like as well.

I am not sure if the previous posters have competitive apps, but if not and you have any feedback on how we can improve the app, please do provide us feedback and we will incorporate it in our upcoming version.

Nikita,

No competitive interest here (a photographer, that's all), just a grievance that the app will not open any photos on 3 of my devices. That aside, had I known that it didn't support full resolution I wouldn't have even bothered to try it. In this day-and-age, not supporting full-resolution is inexcusable as far as I'm concerned.

After installing it, I think it's a great app. The selective tool is a very important feature.
Waiting for an upcoming update with full-res and more Fx.
