NightCap, the simple camera replacement app that was designed to let you carry on shooting even when the sun goes down, was recently been updated to version 2.0.
This update, which I was fortunate enough to be one of the beta testers for, now lets you shoot day or night, and offers one of the most accurate, yet simplest camera interfaces I've used to date.
Completely rebuilt with a new interface, NightCap 2.0 now offers:
- Powerful new focus/exposure/white balance tools. Simply point the camera at the area you want focused or exposed, and tap the Focus Lock, Exposure Lock or White Balance Lock buttons
- On-screen shutter speed and ISO display
- Self-timer mode
- 3x3 grid to aid composition
- Full EXIF support including geo-tagging
- Integrated help and support
To Use: To use NightCap, you can simply point and shoot by taping the red self timer/camera icon located bottom let or right (depending on orientation*), or you can set and lock the white balance, exposure or focus, by pointing the centre square at your subject and/or light source and tapping the corresponding button to lock them in.
Left or Right Handed: With the apps ability to lock the position of its controls, yet rotate the icons, NightCap is perfect for both left handed or right handed photographers.
What do I think of NightCap? I like NightCap because of its simplicity, and I like the way the developer listens to suggestions and addresses issues raised, so if you're looking for a simple, no frills camera replacement app, that does just one thing, but does it very well, that lets you shoot with ease, night or day, and costs just £0.69/$0.99/€0.79, then NightCap may be the app for you.
