VSCO Cam™ isn't just for iPhoneographers

Above: Taking with my Canon S110, as part of my "Under Exposed" series, this shot was edited on my iPad, and had VSCO Cam™ effect number 2 applied to it, along with +1 Grain, and +1 Vignette.VSCO Cam™ from the Visual Supply Company is an easy-to-use iPhone camera app that offers minimal yet elegant processing options, with a sleek interface and streamlined workflow. What many of you may not be aware of, is that VSCO Cam™ will not only run on the iPad 2, iPad Mini and iPad Retina, but it will also support files sizes much greater than those from the current crop of iPhones (my samples are all from a 12 megapixel Canon S110 camera), making it ideal for those who shoot with a digital camera and edit on an iPad.

VSCO Cam™ offers 10 predefined effects, that are derived from the companies Lightroom, Adobe Camera RAW and Aperture 3 plugins. These plugins (called VSCO Film) emulate the emulsions and grains of real 35mm film brands like Kodak, Fuji and Ilford, and cost from $79 USD. Because the VSCO Cam™ effects are derived from, and not direct reproductions of those found in VSCO Film, the Visual Supply Company have chosen to number the apps effects rather than label them.

Above: Again, both of these photos were taking with my Canon S110, as part of my "Under Exposed" series. Both of these shots were edited on my iPad, and had VSCO Cam™ effect number 5 applied to them, along with +1 Grain, and +1 Vignette.

In addition to the 10 predefined effects (3x B&W, 7x Colour), VSCO Cam™ also lets you adjust the Brightens, Contrast, Colour Temperature, Highlights and Saturation of your images, as well as letting you add some very well done Grain and Vignette effects. The app also offers 5 different Crops (2:3, 3:4, 1:1, 4:3 and 3:2) and a Fade and Fill option, that all help create some subtle and beautiful analogue looking images from any digital camera.

Above: All 10 VSCO Cam™ effects.

Priced at just £0.69/$0.99/€0.79, with its subtle effects and analogue looks, VSCO Cam™ [App Store Link] is the perfect app for the mobile photographer.

Looking at what is offered for a dollar, I can't help but feel that there isn't anything special that hasn't been offered with other apps, even ones that are free.

VSCO Cam has been a longterm favorite of mine. The app produces awesome, yet subtle effects that really give pictures a unique and surprisingly professional expression.

My favorite filters are the ultralow contrast ones – #2 for bw and #5 for color.

Great app!

I'm wondering if you are able to add more filters to the app? Seen some of the filters for Lightroom etc. and I'm just wondering if its possible.

Are there any apps like VSCO Can for Android ? I use VSCO Cam on my iPod. It sucks for me though because my iPod takes crappy pictures so I use my Samsung, then send it to my iPod to edit. I just want to be able to edit everything on my phone. Any apps ? Please ?

Is vsco cam contracted through Apple? It's my fav photo app but I've now gone to Android and there still isn't a release. Sad
