Auto Adjust gets bug fix

If you read my mini review of Auto Adjust, then you will know that despite this app geting my 'Recommended' award, it had what I considered to be a major bug, and that was an image rotation issue.  As mention in the review, a bug fix had been submitted by the developer to the AppStore, and yesterday this update became available, fixing this and other minor processing issues.

The iPhoneography Showcase of Gil Riego Jr.

There are four types of photographers: Those who hunt their shots, those who make their shots, those who get lucky and the rarest one, all of the above.

Regardless of the above statement, I'm not going to get deep and philosophical about my photography. It's not something that wracks my tortured soul, it's not a way for me to express my inner most feelings. In a nutshell, I'm just a 26-year-old who has been doing photography for ten years.

I know what I like and I shoot what I like. I even shoot things I don't like in the chance that I may like it later.

Photography to me isn't about enforcing emotion into the viewer. It's about giving the viewer a different perspective— Your own.

OK, maybe I got a little philosophical.

I've practiced in just about every style of photography from landscape to events to product.

I have an AA in Photojournalism from Pierce College in Woodland Hills, Calif.

For a final project in one of my photography classes I decided to go old-fashioned in my shooting, but with a modern edge. I put down my Nikon and picked up my iPhone.

If you would like to showcase your iPhone photos here on the iPhoneography blog, then send me an email and I'll reply with details on how to submit.

New iPhone Photo App: Knocking™ Live Pic Sharing

Description from the AppStore: Knocking is an entirely new form of communication on the iPhone. With Knocking, someone is at the door of your mobile device. Let them in to connect in ways never before possible. Simply ‘knock’, then share moments live with friends or family.

How Knocking Works: It’s simple. ‘Knock’, then share.

  • Open Knocking Live Pic Sharing
  • Set up account
  • Create an album
  • Knock a friend
  • Watch your friend control the album and save your photos.

Knocking eliminates the ‘upload, send, download’ process, establishing live, device-to-device connectivity regardless of proximity or other barriers. Knocking Live Pic Sharing, the first in a series of Knocking apps - creates an instant device-to-device connection allowing one iPhone user to securely control, browse, and save another user’s photo albums as the other watches it happen, live.

“Knocking Live Pic Sharing lets you watch your friends and loved ones flip through your photos to see and save your experiences, live. With Knocking, you can save dozens photos in a matter of seconds.”

Existing ‘photo-sharing’ apps are merely ‘photo-sending’ apps that rely on antiquated technology or close proximity between devices – most require users to upload photos then transmit them using the internet while another person waits to download. Knocking Live Pic Sharing eliminates that process, letting users share up to 100 photos instantly. With Knocking Live Pic Sharing, just select an album, ‘knock’ your friends and watch live as they control your iPhone, flipping through your pictures and saving them to their own device, instantly regardless of distance.

Knocking Live Pic Sharing also includes a ‘Facebook Connect’ feature which automatically publishes stories on users’ ‘Knocks’ in real-time.

Download the app, tell your friends to do the same….and start knocking™ TODAY!

Pointy Heads Software, rising innovators in mobile-to-mobile sharing, today unveiled Knocking, new form of communication redefining the way mobile users share moments

AppStore Link: Aisu B&W Camera - Price £0.59/$0.99

Editors comments: From the developer of Aisu Sepia Camera comes yet another black and white app, but how does this one compare to other black and white apps out there?

The App

Like Aisu Sepia Camera, this one has the same simple to use interface with a series of icons across the very bottom, along with a brighten/darken slider bar.

From left to right are the app icons are:

  • Camera icon - this launches the camera app
  • Photo/file icon - tap this to load a photo from the camera roll
  • Film/slide icon - tap this to toggle between the black and white effect or the original non black and white effect
  • Disk icon - as expected tap this to save your black and white photo
  • i icon - tap this to see other apps from the developer

When using the app, if you open or take a photo then it is automatically converted to black and white using the mid-way slider setting and then automatically saved, which I found odd as their sepia app did not auto-save. The auto-save was a bit annoying, as you may not want the default mid-way setting applied to your photo, but instead use the slider to make adjustments and then save. As a result of this little bug/quirk you end up with more than 1 shot being save, 1 with the default settings and another with your own setting. The other problem with this app, is the slider bar is not dynamic, and so the resulting black and white is not shown until you remove your finger from the slider, which is the same as Aisu Sepia Camera, and something I found annoying.

So what do I think of Aisu B&W Camera?

Compared to some of the other black and white apps available for the iPhone, this one is better, but it is still along way off what I would look for in a stand alone black and white app. It does have some degree of adjustment via the slider, however this only lightens or darkens the photo, and has no affect on the contrast levels.

Overall this is not a bad effort, but with limited controls is not one I can recommend, so if you are looking for a good black and white app then I would recommend either checking out Pure Carbon, or better still going with the B&W filters found in Tiffen's Photo fx or Cool fx.
