Adobe Photoshop Touch arrives on the iPhone

Today sees Adobe's Photoshop Touch finally arrive on the iPhone, coming one year after its debut on the iPad, and for a more reasonable price of £2.99/$4.99/€4.49.

Adobe Photoshop Touch for phone lets you...

  • Use popular Photoshop features, such as layers, selection tools, adjustments, and filters, to create mind-blowing images.
  • Improve your photos using classic Photoshop features to bring out the best in your photography. Apply precise tone and color adjustments to your entire composition, a particular layer, or a select area.
  • Create something other-worldly using painting effects, filter brushes, and so much more. With Photoshop Touch, the creative possibilities are endless.
  • Make your images pop with graphical text. Apply strokes, add drop shadows and fades, and more.
  • Take advantage of your device’s camera to fill an area on a layer with the unique Camera Fill feature.
  • Quickly combine images together. Select part of an image to extract just by scribbling with the Scribble Selection tool. With the Refine Edge feature, use your fingertip to easily capture hard-to-select image elements, like hair.
  • Start a project on your iPhone or iPod Touch and finish it on your iPad* or back in Photoshop** at your desk using a free membership to Adobe Creative Cloud™.*** Your projects are automatically synced between your devices.
  • Free membership to Creative Cloud provides 2GB of cloud storage.
  • Work on high-resolution images while maintaining the highest image quality. Images up to 12 megapixels are supported.

Adobe Photoshop comes to the iPad with "Photoshop Touch"

After much hype and a false start over the weekend, Adobe have finally released Photoshop Touch for the iPad (iPad 2 only).

As Adobe say, the app lets you "transform images with core Adobe® Photoshop® features", and these feature include:

  • Use popular Photoshop features designed for the tablet such as layers, selection tools, adjustments, and filters to create mind-blowing images.
  • Use your iPad camera to fill an area on a layer with the unique camera fill feature.
  • Select part of an image to extract by scribbling with the Scribble Selection tool. With Refine Edge, use your fingertip to capture even hard-to-select image elements, like hair, with ease.
  • Search and acquire images with the integrated Google Image Search.
  • Share images on Facebook and view comments right within the app.
  • Browse an inspirational gallery for the styles and results you'd like to achieve. Then follow step-by-step tutorials to easily learn techniques the pros use for great-looking results.
  • Use AirPrint for wireless printing of Photoshop Touch projects.
  • Upload projects to Adobe Creative Cloud* and open layered files from Adobe Photoshop Touch in Photoshop CS5.
  • Maximum image resolution: 1600 x 1600 pixels

Whilst Adobe Photoshop Touch may let you combine images and apply professional looking effects, it's the apps poor maximum resolution, combined with a price tag of £6.99/$9.99/€7.79 that will stop me, and I'm sure many others from buying this app. That said, if Adobe up the resolution, then I may be tempted, but until then, I'll be sticking with Snapseed, that can easily process at least 12 megapixel images on an iPad 2 (lower on an iPad 1).

Please note: Adobe Photoshop Touch requires an iPad 2 and iOS 5, and will NOT run on the first generation iPad.

Adobe are currently holding their MAX event in LA, and have just announced Adobe Photoshop Touch.

Demonstrated by Chase Jarvis using a Blackberry Playbook, Photoshop Touch looked pretty impressive, and at the end of the demo, Chase asked Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch, if the app would be available for iOS, and the answer was a promising resounding YES.

Whilst there was no news on a release date or pricing for the iOS version, as soon as there is, you will read it here.
