New iPhone Zoom Apps

Over the past week there have been a number of apps that are either zoom only apps, or include the zoom feature in them, so rather than post each one individually I have decided to rap them all up in this one post.

• By default, the image is not scaled up, resulting in the highest quality possible, preserving all detail (sometimes called smart zoom), but you can enable a more traditional digital zoom, where the image is enlarged to the maximum resolution.
• Automatically save unzoomed, full resolution versions of each image.

Zoom Cam, AppStore description: Zoom Cam adds a real-time digital zoom to the iPhone camera. It operates exactly like a point and shoot camera.

When a photo is taken, it is automatically zoomed and cropped. Then it's stored in the iPhone's default Photo Library.

The zoom goes up to 4X digital zoom. Note that this is a digital zoom, so as you zoom in, some resolution is lost.

As an added bonus, Zoom Cam's image viewer uses Full-Res technology to show your images at their full resolution. The standard image viewer down-samples your images, so you lose detail when zoomed in. With Full-Res technology, you can zoom in beyond the native resolution of the images. A+ Camera Zoom, AppStore description: A must have app for every iPhone owner. It makes your iPhone camera much more fun.

Editors comments: As with any digital camera with a digital zoom, the quality of the end results will be pixelated, and apps for the iPhone are no exception.  You should also bear in mind when choosing a digital zoom app that the results will be affected but the apps magafication, and the iPhones megapixels, so the results will be worse with 2 megapixels compared with 3 megapixels.
