Exhibition: "App'ed to the Max"

Photographs from the UK’s first ever iPhoneography course, run at Kensington and Chelsea College, are being showcased to the public for the first time in an exhibition.

The five-week course, "iPhoneography: An Introduction to Photography with the iPhone", taught students a range of skills and techniques to capture and create beautiful and edgy images using just their iPhone camera and a selection of apps. Students were also introduced to the vibrant mobile photography communities where they could share their work with like minded enthusiasts.
A hundred of the best images from the course are now set to make their debut in the forthcoming exhibition "App'ed to the Max", running from November 5-11 at the college’s Chelsea Centre Gallery in Hortensia Road, SW10 0QS. The gallery is open to the public from 9am-7pm Monday to Thursday and 9am-4pm on Friday.

Exhibition guests will also have the opportunity to purchase some of the unique images, and meet the talented iPhoneographers during a Private View being held on Tuesday 6th November, from 6pm.

A selection of photographs from the free exhibition, which is being supported by The Print Space, is also available to view here online.

Richard Gray, course tutor and exhibition curator, said: "iPhoneography has moved on from being simple point-and-shoot photography to both a sophisticated art form and an engaging hobby for millions. The iPhone camera has unleashed amazing creativity in the students and we are very proud to present their work in a traditional photography format. Many people are unaware of the creative potential of iPhoneography and we hope this exhibition goes some way to changing that perception. We would like to thank our exclusive sponsors, The Print Space, for their generous support for the exhibition."

Since the iPhoneography course was launched interest in it has been overwhelming. So far more than 40 students have successfully completed the course and tutor Richard Gray has been working with leading businesses to deliver iPhoneography masterclasses and workshops.

iPhoneography student Shirley Hunter said: "I always had an interest in photography but I didn’t realise how much more room I had to grow. I look at my pictures now and I’m amazed at what I’ve achieved in five weeks. There is so much more to this course than it being fun. It really is a great introduction into photography that teaches just as much about editing as it does about photography. I’d love to take my new found skills further with a more advanced course."

iPhoneography @ Kensington & Chelsea College: Terms out, and the results are in

You may recall that London's Kensington & Chelsea College offered the UK's first tutor lead iPhoneography course. Well the first term has come to an end, and here are some of the students photos and comments. (Please note: If you are viewing this on an iPhone, and can't see the slideshow below, then the photos can be viewed here).

Shirley Hunt @creativehunder03: "I've been interested in and experimenting with iPhoneography for about a year now.  I was so excited to find this course and I wasn't disappointed.  Richard put together a highly informative and stimulating course.  I came away with so many great tools and ideas.  As I look at my photos that I've taken since the course began, I can't believe how I've improved.  I would highly recommend the course to anyone who's interested in iphonography.  I hope to see a more advanced course soon."

Richard Barnard @acrobat67: “What a great course – I learnt so much in a short space of time. It was great to learn how to take good photographs on the IPhone and then manipulate them in a variety of different apps. The course tutor was great – he made it seem all so easy. I met some great people all with a love of photography and all keen to use their iPhone to its full potential. Move over DSLR’s – the IPhone is here to stay.”

Heather Noon @morvah1: "The course was perfectly pitched for me as a beginner on the Apps and social networking front. The course design actually worked for people at all levels, sharing information and ideas in a relaxed but structured way. The class size and make-up produced a great sense of learning from each other - and the body of work generated through excellent homework themes was very inspiring. A great learning experience, that will only continue. And good fun."

Terence Quinn @terrymq: "Thank you so much for opening my eyes to photography using the iPhone. I had never even heard of iPhoneography before discovering your course. I would never have gone on holiday without taking my SLR camera. I am now in Sydney having left it at home because I can now take better pics with my iPhone4S and the knowledge gained from your course. You did a great job and I would never have believed that we were the first students on it. Your prep for each session was first class. Very professional. I will be very keen to join a follow up course if you decide to offer it."

Jo Cope @jocope: "The iPhonegraphy course at KCC taught by Richard Gray was one of the best evening courses I have ever done. Richard was an extremely knowledgable, calm and patient tutor. By using Instagram and having homework meant that communication between the group members and with Richard was quickly established. Although I had used various apps before, attending the course helped me to become more confident and allowed my to structure my experimenting. It also opened up the whole world of Instagram which quickly became addictive. It was really good to meet like mended students and I feel it is a testament to Richard that we have already planned to meet up as a group to continue our iPhonegraphy."

If you live in London and like the look and sound of this course, then the Kensington & Chelsea College has another session which starts on the 26th April.
