Take a Shot in the Dark with NightCap

NightCap from interealtime.com is in my opinion the best slow shutter speed app currently available for the iPhone, which has just been updated with full iPhone 5 support.

So what's new?

  • Full iPhone 5 support
  • New iPhone 5 optimised interface with much improved controls
  • Supports iPhone 5 High ISO mode (boosts ISO from 800 to 3200)
  • New Burst mode (available in settings)
  • TIFF and HQ JPEG support for higher photo quality (available in settings)
  • More responsive: Exposure time is limited to 1/3s for faster handling and less blur (you can disable this in the settings if you prefer the full 1 second exposure time)
  • Photo sharing: Share via email, twitter or facebook
  • Photo printing
  • Easily open photos in your favourite editing app
  • Full iOS 6 support
  • Many fixes and improvements

App Alert: FREE for 1 day only - NightCap, the day and night camera app

NightCap is a camera replacement app built for high performance around the clock, and for 1 day only its available from the App Store for FREE.

NightCap is described as "the first and only app to do real slow shutter photography. That means in low light it performs better than any other app thanks to its unique extended exposure range, producing brighter and more detailed images with less grain", and I recently commented, saying "it offers one of the most accurate, yet simplest camera interfaces I've used to date."

NightCap, now good for day or night

NightCap, the simple camera replacement app that was designed to let you carry on shooting even when the sun goes down, was recently been updated to version 2.0.

This update, which I was fortunate enough to be one of the beta testers for, now lets you shoot day or night, and offers one of the most accurate, yet simplest camera interfaces I've used to date.

Completely rebuilt with a new interface, NightCap 2.0 now offers:

  • Powerful new focus/exposure/white balance tools. Simply point the camera at the area you want focused or exposed, and tap the Focus Lock, Exposure Lock or White Balance Lock buttons
  • On-screen shutter speed and ISO display
  • Self-timer mode
  • 3x3 grid to aid composition
  • Full EXIF support including geo-tagging
  • Integrated help and support

To Use: To use NightCap, you can simply point and shoot by taping the red self timer/camera icon located bottom let or right (depending on orientation*), or you can set and lock the white balance, exposure or focus, by pointing the centre square at your subject and/or light source and tapping the corresponding button to lock them in.

Left or Right Handed: With the apps ability to lock the position of its controls, yet rotate the icons, NightCap is perfect for both left handed or right handed photographers.

What do I think of NightCap? I like NightCap because of its simplicity, and I like the way the developer listens to suggestions and addresses issues raised, so if you're looking for a simple, no frills camera replacement app, that does just one thing, but does it very well, that lets you shoot with ease, night or day, and costs just £0.69/$0.99/€0.79, then NightCap may be the app for you.

New Years day, final giveaway

With the first two offers over, here is my third and final promo code offer on this New Years day giveaway.

This time it's NightCap, which is again from developer Chris Wood.

"NightCap is a camera app designed for low light and night photography. It uses much longer exposure times than the standard camera app giving brighter, clearer photos - even without flash! It's simple and easy to use, just hit the shutter button to take fully automatic photos or if you prefer you can manually limit exposure or set the focus point."

I have 10x promo codes to randomly give away over the next 24hrs, so if you would like the chance of winning one, then please post your request in the comments below.
